BASIC CONCEPTS IN TECHNICAL DRAWING

GEOMETRY: It is a part of mathematics that deals with the study of properties of
points, lines, polygons, etc.

It comes from the Greek GEO (earth) METERS (measurement).

A POINT/DOT: It is the minimum expression of the drawing. It represents a position.
They are always named with capital letters A, B, C, O (it is the center of a circle)or numbers (1,2,3,)

B. STRAIGHTLINE : A line is a succession of points in the same direction. It is also defined as the distance between two points.
The lines are endless.
The lines are named with lowercase letters r, s, t ...

C SEMI STRAIGHT LINE (RAY): A semi straight line is a portion of a line delimited by a point. It is delimited by one extreme and by the other it is infinite. It is also named with lowercase letters and the end, as it is a point, by a capital letter.

D SEGMENT: A segment is a portion of a line delimited by two points. Therefore a segment has a beginning and an end, it is finite and can be measured.

RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN STRAIGHT LINES OR SEGMENTS
Two lines or segments can store three different types of relationships:

-PARALLEL
-SECANT/INTERSECTING
-PERPENDICULAR
